Farmers can get insurance coverage for the new technologies so that if they fail, they do not lose anything as the insurance company compensates them. Maharashtra may follow several other big states in opting out of the Narendra Modi government’s much-vaunted crop insurance scheme, PMFBY (Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana). Several states, including West Bengal, have already replaced the central scheme with their own. Maharashtra may become the 8th state to opt out of the flagship crop insurance program of the center.
