OTSI Develops Unified Portal for Agricultural Statistics (UPAg) for the Indian Ministry of Agriculture

Object Technology Solutions India (OTSI), a global IT services company, created the UPAg (Unified Portal for Agricultural Statistics) for India’s Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. This new UPAg portal, which launched in September 2023, is a significant step towards providing reliable, standardized information to empower stakeholders and improve agricultural policies.

Unified Portal for Agricultural Statistics

The UPAg portal is a carefully designed platform to make data management in the agricultural sector more efficient. It addresses the need for accurate, objective data to reduce subjective decision-making in policymaking, promoting stability, transparency, and informed choices. Chandra Talluri, the CEO of Object Technology Solutions India (OTSI), expressed their happiness in collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture on this innovative project.

The UPAg portal will enhance data accuracy and digital data governance in agriculture, giving users access to real-time, reliable, and standardized information. This objective data will lead to more responsive and efficient agricultural policies. Currently, agricultural data in India is spread across various sources and often presented in different formats and units.

The UPAg portal aims to consolidate this data into a standardized format, making it easily accessible and understandable for users. It will bring together real-time information on prices, production, area, yield, and trade from diverse sources, providing a comprehensive overview of agricultural commodities.

Main Features of the UPAg Portal

Crop Production Automation: It automatically calculates crop production estimates by gathering data from different sources like the Indian Express Group (IEG), Crop Weather Watch Group, Multi-National Crop Forecast Centre (MNCFC), and state government information. These estimates help policymakers and others make informed decisions.

Deeper Understanding of Agricultural Trends: The data on the UPAg portal gives us a deeper understanding of agricultural trends and how resources are used. This information is vital for creating effective agricultural policies.

Data Communication with Local Entities: The UPAg portal collaborates with state governments to create detailed crop production estimates. These local insights are crucial for making decisions at the regional and local levels.

Crop Data Collection: The portal collects primary data about crop area, production, yield and secondary data like prices and market arrivals. Gathering and organizing secondary data from various sources, including government agencies, private organizations, and research institutions, improves the accuracy and timeliness of crop production estimates and helps us better understand market dynamics.
